# Transcripts for iOS

Using the retrieve transcript API, you can access the transcript and decide how to display that information to your users. This API downloads a transcript of the conversation represented in the [`conversationClient`](https://salesforce-async-messaging.github.io/messaging-in-app-ios/documentation/smiclientcore/conversationclient/).

See the [Allow End Users to Download a Transcript of a Messaging Session](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.miaw_download_transcript.htm&type=5) page to learn how to turn the save transcript feature on or off for your org.

**important:** This feature requires version 1.5.0 or later of the Enhanced In-App Chat SDK.

This article applies to the following implementations:

| UI SDK | Core SDK |
| :----: | :------: |
|        |    ✅    |

The API returns a PDF document per call. The host app is responsible for what to do with this file. For example, you can save it to your files or share it.

To retrieve the transcript, use the `retrieveTranscript()` method on the [`conversationClient`](https://salesforce-async-messaging.github.io/messaging-in-app-ios/documentation/smiclientcore/conversationclient) object.

```
let core = CoreFactory.create(withConfig: config)
let client = core.conversationClient(with: config)
client.retrieveTranscript { document, error in
  if error != nil {
     // TO DO: Handle error
     return
  }
  // TO DO: Handle document
  // The API returns a document as an object of type PDFDocument.
}
```
