# Enable Web Console

For your users to access Web Console, grant them `Web Console User` and `View All Data` permissions.

1. Open your org.
2. To enable Web Console, in the Quick Find Box, enter `Development`, and then select **Web Console**.
3. Switch the **Enable Web Console to** button to **Active**.

4. The Developer Console is inactive by default. To enable Developer Console as an option, switch the **Enable Developer Console to** button to **Active**. Here's what happens when you enable either or both of the consoles.

**important:** While Web Console offers enhanced functionality and an improved user experience, you can re-enable the legacy Developer Console at any time. If your workflow requires reverting to Developer Console, let us know why and submit your feedback through the [Web Console Feedback Repository](https://github.com/forcedotcom/web-console-feedback/issues) to help inform future platform improvements.

- If Web Console is **Active** and Developer Console is **Inactive**: Only Web Console is available as your development environment option from the Setup menu. Clicking **Edit** next to an Apex class, trigger, or job opens the object in Web Console.

- If Web Console is **Inactive**, the Developer Console becomes **Active** by default: Only Developer Console is available as your development environment option from the Setup menu. Clicking **Edit** next to an Apex object opens the object in the Apex editor window.

- If both Web Console and Developer Console are **Active**: Both the IDEs are available from the Setup menu. Clicking the **Edit** link next to an Apex object opens the object in Web Console, but **Web Console** and **Developer Console** buttons are both available to launch the IDE.

1. Close the Setup page.
2. Refresh the page or wait a few seconds for the gear menu options to be updated. After they're updated, you can see the **Web Console** option in the gear menu. Refer to [Launch Web Console](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/platform/webconsole/guide/launch.md) for other ways to open the Web Console.
