# getEvent()

Returns a new event instance of the named component event.

## Signature

`getEvent(String name)`

## Parameters

**_name_:** Type: `String`. The name of the event.

## Sample Code

// evtName matches the name attribute in aura:registerEvent
cmp.getEvent("evtName");
```
