# Anonymous and Known User Browsing

As online activities increase, so do the number of online user accounts. Users do not want to create yet another account unless there is a clear benefit to doing so.

The benefit occurs when the customer has decided to purchase an item from the website and it is time to close the sale. Otherwise, shoppers may go to great lengths to avoid signing in to complete a purchase, including abandoning their cart. The solution to this issue is to give people the option of anonymous browsing to gauge their interest in purchasing products.

A typical conversion funnel in e-commerce illustrates the route your customers take from first becoming aware of your brand to making a purchase.

The e-commerce conversion funnel relates to the APIs for anonymous browsing, such as Get Offers By Catalog, Get Offer Details, Get Featured Offers, etc. For more information on the APIs, see [Digital Commerce (Cacheable) APIs](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/industries/cme/guide/comms-t-digital-commercecacheableapis.md).

During anonymous browsing, you can filter the list of products retrieved from the shared catalog based on context information by creating a context eligibility rule as described in the [Anonymous and Known User Browsing Use Case](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/industries/cme/guide/comms-t-use-case.md).
