# Add Comments to Your SQL Statements

Adding comments to SQL statements helps make the SQL queries more readable. Comments aren’t executed as part of the SQL query.

To comment out a single line, or part of a line, use `--` at the beginning of a line or in the middle of a line.

For example, these two lines are comments.

```
-- This line is a comment, and the line below is commented out as well.
-- SELECT * from ssot__Individual__dlm
```

To add a multiline comment, enclose the block between `/*` and `*/` characters.

For example, this entire block is commented out.

```
/*
 Multi-line comment block.
 Useful to add some notes about the SQL query.
*/

```
