# Prepare Your Amazon S3 Connection

Before you set up a connection in Data 360, gather the required information and complete the necessary actions in Amazon S3.

## Gather Info in Amazon S3

1. Identify the name of the S3 bucket that stores your data.
2. Note the directory (folder) path within the bucket that contains your files.
3. Gather the following info based on how you want to authenticate the Salesforce and S3 connection.
   1. If you want to use an access key and secret, obtain the [Access Key ID and Secret Access Key](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/IAM/latest/UserGuide/access-keys-admin-managed.html) for an IAM user.
   2. If you want to use an Identity Provider (IdP), obtain the IAM Role [Amazon Resource Name (ARN)](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/IAM/latest/UserGuide/id_roles_common-scenarios_third-party.html).

## Authorize Access to Amazon S3

1. Ensure the IAM user or role has the necessary S3 permissions for your use case. See [Amazon S3 Bucket Policies and Permissions](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/data/data-cloud-int/guide/c360-a-awss3-bucket-policies.html) for details.
2. If your Amazon S3 bucket restricts access by IP address, add the Data Cloud [IP addresses](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=data.c360_a_data_cloud_ip_address_allowlist.htm&type=5) to your S3 allowlist.
