| ----------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| To create a connection: | System Admin profile or Data Cloud Architect permission set |

Before you begin:

- Enable the Beta connector through the feature manager. See [Enable Data 360 Features](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=data.c360_a_feature_manager.htm&type=5).
- Verify your admin has enabled firewalls on the system you want Data 360 to connect to by including these [IP addresses](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=data.c360_a_data_cloud_ip_address_allowlist.htm&type=5) to your allowlists.

1. In Salesforce, click **Setup**, and select **Data Cloud Setup**.

2. Under External Integrations, select **Other Connectors**.

3. Click **New**.

4. On the Source tab, select **AWS Athena** and click **Next**.

5. Enter a connection name, connection API name, and provide the authentication and connection details.

6. For Username and Password, enter the credentials to authenticate the user.

7. For the Connection URL, there are two acceptable formats:

    1. Format 1: `{endpoint override}{subdomain}.athena.{region}{.vpce}.amazonaws.com:443`
       1. The endpoint override and subdomain is optional. Both are 1–100 lowercase letters, numbers, or hyphens.
       2. AWS regions are 1–100 characters long, including lowercase (a–z) or uppercase letters (A–Z), numbers (0–9), underscores (\_), or hyphens (-) that show where the Athena service is. Region is typically formatted as {country-region-number}.
       3. VPCE is also optional and is 1–100 characters long, including uppercase (A–Z) or lowercase letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), underscores (\_), or hyphens (-).

    2. Format 2: `AwsRegion={country-region-number}`
         1. AWS regions are 1–100 characters long, including lowercase (a–z) or uppercase letters (A–Z), numbers (0–9), underscores (_), or hyphens (-) that show where the Athena service is.

**note:** Here's the regular expression for the acceptable formats: `((EndpointOverride=)?([a-z0-9-]{1,100}\\.)?athena\\.[A-Za-z0-9_-]{1,100}(\\.vpce)?\\.amazonaws\\.com:443|AwsRegion=[A-Za-z0-9_-]{1,100})`

8. Enter a S3 Staging Directory.

9. Enter an optional Workgroup.

    See Amazon [documentation about workgroups](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/athena/latest/ug/user-created-workgroups.html).

10. Enter a Data Source.

See Amazon [documentation to understand tables, databases, and data catalogs](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/athena/latest/ug/understanding-tables-databases-and-the-data-catalog.html).

11. Enter a Database value.

12. To review your configuration, click **Test Connection**.

13. Click **Save**.

After the connector details are accepted, the connection is created and listed under Connectors. You can now create data streams.
