Set Up Salesforce for Embedding Tableau Next Externally

To embed Tableau Next components in an external web app, complete a one-time setup: create an External Client App (ECA) for authentication, update your Salesforce org settings, assign user permissions, and write code that generates access tokens and Frontdoor URLs.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure your Salesforce org has the Tableau+ or Tableau Next Creator license and that Tableau Next is enabled.
  • Verify the Tableau Next admin page is accessible for assigning user permissions and creating an ECA for your authorization flow.
  • Identify the users that own any Tableau Next assets you want to embed and request access to those assets.
  • Identify the Tableau Next admin with access to configure the ECA and set up the Content Security Policy (CSP).

Set Up Steps

Create your ECA to provide authentication. Then, update Salesforce org settings for your domain and cookie requirements. Make sure that the domain and callback URL for the web app match the values in the ECA and in your Salesforce settings.

Make sure that all your web app users exist in your Salesforce org and have the correct permissions to view the embedded components.

Write code in your web app that generates access tokens and Frontdoor URLs, then passes those credentials to the embedded component, so each user is authenticated to Salesforce.
