# Prerequisites

Complete these prerequisites before you begin the quick start.

Become familiar with:

- Either Workbench or cURL.

Workbench is a tool that includes a REST explorer that allows you to make HTTP requests to Salesforce and receive responses through a Web browser interface.

cURL is a command-line tool that serves as a client application that makes HTTP requests to Salesforce. cURL is an open-source tool and isn’t supported by Salesforce.

- JavaScript Object Notation (JSON), which is the data format returned in this quick start.
- OAuth 2.0, which is the framework Salesforce uses for authentication. The quick start provides the steps, but it would be helpful to familiarize yourself with OAuth terms and concepts.
