# Add an Existing Document

Search for or provide the link to an existing Quip document to link it to a Salesforce record.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr></tbody></table>

You can add a document to the Quip Document component only if your admin configured the component to let you do so.

1. In the Quip Document component, click **Choose Document**.

![Before you embed a document, the Quip Document component includes three buttons: Choose Document, New Document, and Open Template Library.](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-anywhere_app-264-0-0-production-enus/c0406050-7b26-469a-9dc5-10d6c0c9c576/anywhere_app/images/quip_document_component.png)
2. Search for your document, or provide the URL to it in the Add By URL tab.

![The window includes a Search tab with a search bar and an Add by URL tab with a text field.](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-anywhere_app-264-0-0-production-enus/c0406050-7b26-469a-9dc5-10d6c0c9c576/anywhere_app/images/quip_document_component_choose_document.png)
3. Click **Update**.

The document appears in the Quip Document component.

In the background, Salesforce links the document to the record. If the record also includes the Quip Associated Documents component, the document is listed there when the link is complete.
