# Rules to Process Transaction Journals

Loyalty program process rules process transaction journals when they fulfill a set of predefined criteria.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Performance</strong>, <strong>Unlimited</strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Developer</strong>&nbsp;Editions with Loyalty Management</td></tr></tbody></table>

## Rules Associated with Promotions

- The transaction journal's activity date must match or be between the start and end dates of the promotion.
- The transaction journal's journal type must match the transaction journal type of the promotion.
- The transaction journal's associated product or product category must match either the product or product category of the promotion.
- The member associated with the transaction journal must be enrolled into the promotion if the promotion requires enrollment.
- The member associated with the transaction journal must be part of the campaign that's associated with the promotion.

Tip Rules associated with promotions can’t verify the campaign that Corporate type members belong to when the member isn’t associated with a contact. If you have a promotion that’s only applicable for corporate members, use a condition in the promotion rule to check whether the member is of the type Corporate.

## Allow Rules to Process Transaction Journals When the Member Is Part of the Data Cloud Segment Associated with the Promotion

Enable a [setting](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.promotion_setup_rule_cdp_setting.htm&type=5&language=en_US) that allows rules to only process transaction journals that belong to members who are part of the Data Cloud segment that's associated with the rule's promotion.

Note After you associate a promotion with a segment, sometimes loyalty program process rules aren’t able to filter members based on their segments when applying promotions. It takes around one hour for loyalty program process rules to update after segments are associated with promotions. A rule can only process transactions if its associated segment’s last publish status is Success. You can’t process transactions when the last publish status of a segment associated with a rule’s promotion isn’t Success. A rule is also not able to process transactions when the segment associated with the rule’s promotion is being refreshed.
