Create a Loyalty Program Process Parameter

Parameters store static values, dynamic values, and formulas. You can use parameters to define conditions or actions. Parameters can store multiple value types depending on the type and data type of the parameter.

Required Editions

Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer Editions with Loyalty Management
User Permissions Needed
To create a loyalty program process parameter:

Loyalty Management permission set

AND

You can use parameters to:

  • Define a formula, including a formula that's stored in another parameter.
  • Filter records.
  • Define the criteria of conditions.
  • Enter input values or store the output values of an action.

Here are the types of values that a parameter can store.

Type Supported Data Type Description
Constant
  • Text
  • Number
  • Date
  • Date/Time
  • Boolean
Stores a value that you enter. Ensure that the value you enter is of the same data type that you selected.
Variable
  • Text
  • Number
  • Date
  • Date/Time
  • sObject
  • Boolean
  • Stores the record details of the selected object when the selected data type is sObject.
    Tip
Tip If you want to use values from a record in your rule, create a sObject parameter and add a filter to uniquely identify the record.
  • Stores a value based on the selected data type that's provided when processing a transaction journal.
Formula
  • Text
  • Number
  • Date
  • Date/Time
  • Boolean
Stores a formula that you enter. Ensure that the output of the formula you enter is of the same data type that you selected.
  1. On a Loyalty Program record, click the Program Processes tab.
  2. Click the program process for which you want to create a parameter.
  3. On the Loyalty Program Process Parameters tab, click New.
  4. Specify the appropriate values for these fields.
    Field Description
    Name

Enter a unique name for the parameter.

Don't use special characters and spaces.

    Important
Important Don't use the Promotion_ or LoyaltyProgramMbrPromotion_ prefixes.
Type Select the type of value that you want the parameter to store.
Data Type Select the data type of the value that you want the parameter to store.
    Use Parameter As
    • Input: Select if you want the parameter’s value to be provided from outside the loyalty program process. For example, the value can be provided by an API.
    • Output: Select if you want the parameter’s value to be available for use outside the loyalty program process. For example, the value can be used in a flow.

If the Process Type of a parameter’s related loyalty program process is TransactionJournal, the parameter’s value can’t be provided or used by a system or process that's outside the loyalty program process.

  5. Depending on the type and data type of the parameter, enter these values:
Value Depending on the data type, either store an alphanumeric value, a number, a data, a date and time, or True or False.
Decimal Places Specify the maximum number of decimal places until which a formula or variable can store a value.
Formula Click Formula builder icon., and then enter a formula.
  6. Save your changes.
Example
Example

In a program, two parameters are needed. The first parameter type is Constant. You can use this parameter to enter the value of the issued vouchers. The other parameter type is Formula. You can use this parameter to determine the number of points to credit to the member associated with the transaction journal. To ensure that members receive points worth 10% of the transaction amount, enter this formula: {!TransactionJournal.TransactionAmount} * 0.10.

After you create parameters, use the parameters in your process rules.

Warning
Warning After you delete a parameter, you can't undo the change. Ensure that you only delete parameters that aren't used in a rule or a Formula-type parameter that you no longer require.
