Let's consider a scenario where Acme Fabrication, in addition to its $95 negotiated price from the previous scenario, qualifies for an extra 10% volume discount. The discount must apply to the $95 price already calculated for Acme Fabrication — not to the general $120 list price, and not to the raw order value.

1. Define the Discount Specification.
    1. See [Create a Pricing Specification](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.ppp_create_specification.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Define calculation behavior, rounding, and scale conditions for a pricing element.") for the create/activate procedure. Create a specification named "10% Volume Discount."
    2. Set **Meta Type** to Percentage, **Rounding** to Commercial Rounding, and **Decimal Places** to 2.
    3. Click **Save**, then **Activate**.
2. Add the Discount Step to the Calculation Schema.

    ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-penny_perfect_pricing-264-0-0-production-enus/8ac1130d-00eb-4b6b-ba82-4b09e6f166a0/images/icon_note.png)

Note To hold an intermediate result — for example, the lowest, highest, or summed value across several prior steps — so a later step can reference it, check the **Subtotal** checkbox on the referenced step, together with the Minimum, Maximum, or other reserved meta types.

    1. Open the Standard Pricing Procedure calculation schema from the previous scenario.
    2. Add a new Calculation Schema Step referencing the 10% Volume Discount specification, with **Position** = 20 and **Step Reference** = 10 — so the discount is calculated against step 10's result (Acme Fabrication's $95 price), not the raw order value.
    3. Click **Save**, then **Activate**.
3. Load the Discount Data.
    1. Using Data Loader, import an **External Pricing Key Value** record keyed to Acme Fabrication, with a Pricing Value of 10 (percent).
    2. Run the **External Pricing Key Value Consolidation** job. See [Load Pricing Data from a Backend ERP System](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.ppp_scenario_load_erp_data.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Export pricing condition data from an ERP system and consolidate it for runtime pricing lookups — the load-and-consolidate procedure shared by the pricing scenarios in this section.") for the full job procedure.
4. Simulate the Price.
    1. Recalculate the price on Acme Fabrication's order from the previous scenario.
    2. On the **Pricing Details** tab, step 10 shows $95 (the negotiated price), step 20 shows the 10% discount with Step Reference = 10, and the Calculation Result for step 20 shows $85.50 — confirming the discount was applied to the $95 negotiated price rather than to the $120 list price.
