# Create a Portability Policy

Use Portability policies to compile data from both default and custom objects linked to the Individual, Account, Contact, Lead, or User objects. You can select individual fields on these objects that contain the data subject’s PII for inclusion in the policy. The fields are then compiled into a file.

Create a portability policy for sharing data with customers.

1. From the Privacy Center dashboard, under Portability Policies, click **Go to the DSAR Policy Manager** in Setup. Then click **New Policy**.
2. Under Policy Editor, click **Add Object**.
3. Choose a primary object to add to your policy, and then click **Save**.
4. Click an object name to see available fields on the object. We recommend adding fields marked with the compliance categorization icon to your policy, as they likely hold sensitive information or PII. For more information on compliance categorizations, see [Data Classification Metadata Fields](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.data_classification_metadata_fields.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
5. Select the fields that represent the subject’s PII data for inclusion in the policy. Be careful to include only the PII data for the subject whose request you're processing. Select at least one field on each object.
6. Optionally, add one or more child objects to your policy. Click the name of an object under Policy, and then click **Add Object**. Next to each child object is the field that relates to the primary object.
7. Save your changes.
8. Click the names of any child objects you added, and then select fields to include in the policy.
9. Click **Save**, and then enter a name and optional description for your policy. The name must be alphanumeric with no spaces or special characters.
10. Save your changes, and then activate your policy using the dropdown.

You can deactivate your policy at any time using the dropdown.
