# Bind a Component to a Field

Connect a single component, such as a text component, to a field from a data source so that it shows one field value.

Add a data source to the screen before you bind components on it.

1. Select a component that can show data.
2. In the properties panel, select the data binding icon for the property to populate.
3. Select the data source, such as Active opportunities.

If no data source appears, add one to the screen first.
4. In the expression builder, drill into the record's fields and select the field to show, such as Description.
5. Save your change.

In edit mode and in an authenticated preview session, the component shows live data from your org.

Example

When a single component is bound to a source that returns more than one record, the component shows the field from the first record in the source. To repeat content across every record, bind a dynamic component instead.
