# Add a Data Source to a Screen

Define the records you want available on a screen, including the object, filters, sort order, and how many records to retrieve.

A component shows live data only after its screen has a data source. Add a data source before you bind components on that screen to fields.

1. In the data tab, select the screen to add data to, and then select **Browse source manually**.
2. Enter a data source label.

The label is an alias for this source. Use a distinct label for each source so that you can tell them apart. For example, you can add the same object twice with different filters, so give each one a clear name such as Active opportunities.
3. Select the object to pull records from, such as Opportunity.
4. Add filter conditions.

For each condition, choose a field, an operator, and a value. When you have more than one condition, choose whether records must meet all conditions (AND) or at least one condition (OR).
5. Set the sort order by choosing a field to sort by, and then selecting ascending or descending.
6. Set how many records to retrieve, such as the first six records.
7. Save the data source.

The data source is now available on the screen and ready to bind to components.

Bind a component on the screen to a field in this data source.
