The [Enable ICU Locale Formats](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_customization_globalization_enable_icu_locale_formats_release_update.htm&release=252&type=5&language=en_US) release update is available for all Salesforce orgs. Orgs whose Apex Classes, Apex Triggers, and Visualforce Pages are using API version 44 or earlier may encounter issues.

Salesforce orgs created in Winter ’20 or later have ICU locale formats enabled by default. Orgs that haven’t already switched to ICU locale formats are encouraged to manually update.

To get the release update date for your instance, go to [Trust Status](https://status.salesforce.com/), search for your instance, and click the maintenance tab.

When you enable the ICU locale formats, the appearance and behavior related to dates, times, and currencies can change. For this reason, we recommend that you test in a sandbox before activating the new formats in production.

1. Enable the formats for testing.

    1. From Setup, in the Quick Find Box, enter Release Updates, and then select **Release Updates**.
    2. For the Enable ICU Locale Formats release update, click **Get Started**.
    3. In the “Understand and minimize the impact of these changes with our step-by-step guide” section, click **Enable Test Run**.

![A portion of the release update screen with a circle around the button labeled, Enable Test Run.](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-setup-264-0-0-production-enus/6f21df35-9ea0-4f53-ac94-45c3b5dfd5bc/setup/images/admin_icu_ru_enable_testing.png)

After you click **Enable Test Run**, the same section includes the text, “This update is now enabled for testing.” Your org is using ICU formats.
2. Activate the ICU formats for the English (Canada) \[en\_CA\] locale.
    1. In the Quick Find box, enter User Interface, and then select **User Interface**.
    2. Select **Enable ICU formats for en\_CA locale**, and save your changes.
