You’re allocated 1.5 TB of storage space with Privacy Center, but you can also purchase up to 4 TB of additional space if needed. Your data is automatically encrypted at rest within Heroku. This encryption occurs at the block level using the AES-256 algorithm, meaning that your customer’s data never appears on a storage disk as plaintext. Additionally, Amazon keys enable volume encryption, making your data inaccessible without the proper credentials. If you prefer, you can also use your own AWS key with Heroku Postgres.
While Heroku primarily serves as a data retention store, it also offers options for viewing, working with, or restoring retained customer data. For example, you can use External Objects and Salesforce Connect to create and analyze data reports. While the retention store isn’t directly editable, when required, it’s possible to update the data through External Objects, a database tool, or an API. You can also manually restore records from Heroku storage and then reincorporate them into your Salesforce org.
- Heroku + Heroku Connect
Privacy Center retains customer data by syncing it to Heroku storage through Heroku Connect. This synchronization leads to some key differences between data security, storage spaces, and editability. - Retaining Customer Data
Heroku Connect syncs your data to your Heroku data store, which can affect storage usage and run time.
