# Run Loyalty Promotions

After loyalty program managers activate promotions that use loyalty program templates, set up a process or integrate an API to apply promotions for member transactions. Admins and system integrators can set a process or an integration to apply promotions for member transactions in real-time or in batches.

## Activate the Promotion’s Loyalty Program Process

You must activate the loyalty program process that contains a promotion’s rule. Only an active loyalty program process can process transaction journals. After you activate the process, admins can configure how to run the loyalty program process for transaction journals.

## Use Flow Action to Apply Promotions for Transactions in Batches

Create a flow with the Run Program Process for Transaction Journal action to run the loyalty program process applicable for transaction journals. ## Use Batch Management Jobs to Apply Promotions for Transactions in Batches

Create a batch job to run the loyalty program process applicable for transaction journals. ## Use Business API to Apply Promotions for Transactions in Real-Time

Integrate the Transaction Journal Execution Business API with external systems such as a POS system or your shopping site. The API creates transaction journals and runs the applicable loyalty program process for the transaction journals. ## How Does the Promotion’s Rule Process Transaction Journals

A loyalty program process is applicable for a transaction journal when the journal type and subtype of the transaction journal and loyalty program process match. The rules of the applicable loyalty program process apply to the transaction journal. When the loyalty program process applies to a transaction journal, the rule that’s associated with the promotion also processes the transaction journal. A promotion rule checks if the transaction journal is eligible for the promotion and rewards the member if the transaction journal is eligible.
