Curious about how Salesforce Edge Network works? See [Salesforce Edge Network](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.domain_name_edge_network.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Enhance global access, performance, and security with Salesforce Edge Network. Users access your Salesforce data from all over the world, and Salesforce Edge Network delivers them a consistent experience regardless of their location.").

Note Government Cloud is currently excluded from Salesforce Edge Network.

Salesforce requires you to route your My Domain URLs through Salesforce Edge Network. This routing applies to most provisioned and deployed domains for your org. See [Considerations for Salesforce Edge Network](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.domain_name_edge_network_considerations.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Learn how to maintain access to your custom domain during the move to Salesforce Edge Network.") to review routing exceptions.

## Prerequisites

- Include the Salesforce IP address ranges for all regions in your allowlists. See [IP Addresses and Domains to Allow](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=000384438&type=1&language=en_US) and [Hyperforce IPs to Allow - Sales, Service, Industries, and Tableau Clouds](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=003876184&type=1&language=en_US).
- If you pin certificates, pin the intermediate certificate because Salesforce Edge Network uses data center-specific certificates. For more information, see [Certificates in Salesforce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.security_keys_policy_and_rotation.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
- To turn on global caching on a Visualforce page with Salesforce Edge Network in a Hyperforce org, use the [apex:page](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.pages.meta/pages/pages_compref_page.htm) cache attribute.
- Coordinate with your third-party service or CDN to update the target host name for your domain immediately after you move to Salesforce Edge Network. This update is required if a third-party service or CDN serves your Digital Experiences or Salesforce sites on a [custom domain](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.domain_mgmt.htm&type=5&language=en_US). Otherwise, your custom domain stops working. Verify the correct host name in [Prerequisites for a Custom Domain That Uses a Third-Party Service or CDN](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.domain_mgmt_enable_https.htm&type=5&language=en_US).

Note Wait 15 minutes after enabling Salesforce Edge Network before making any other setup changes that require provisioning. For example, a change to your My Domain name provisions new host names for your org.

## Enable Salesforce Edge Network

1. From Setup, find and select **My Domain**.
2. Under Routing and Policies, select **Edit**.
3. Select **Use Salesforce Edge Network**, and save your changes.

    ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-setup-264-0-0-production-enus/6f21df35-9ea0-4f53-ac94-45c3b5dfd5bc/images/icon_note.png)

Note After enablement, you have a 7-calendar-day rollback window if you encounter unexpected issues. After that window, log a case with Salesforce Support to discuss your options.

## Select a Routing Method

Under Routing and Policies, click **Edit**, and then select a routing method. Each routing method handles sandbox environments and custom domains differently. See [Considerations for Salesforce Edge Network.](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.domain_name_edge_network_considerations.htm&type=5&language=en_US)

![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-setup-264-0-0-production-enus/6f21df35-9ea0-4f53-ac94-45c3b5dfd5bc/images/icon_note.png)

Note Most routing options are self-serve. However, contact Salesforce Customer Support to turn on Global Selective Routing for the first time. After your request is approved, you can switch between routing options on the My Domain Setup page.

- Global Routing - Direct requests to the Salesforce Edge Network location closest to the user. Select this option for the best performance and security. This option is the default.
- Regional Routing - Directs requests to Salesforce Edge Network locations only within the region where your org is located. For example, if your Salesforce instance is in Japan, all requests route through Salesforce Edge Network locations in Japan. When enabled, Regional routing applies to all My Domain hostnames for your org and all custom domains that use Salesforce Cloud.

    ![Important](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-setup-264-0-0-production-enus/6f21df35-9ea0-4f53-ac94-45c3b5dfd5bc/images/icon_important.png)

Important Although regional routing can help you meet data residency and regulatory requirements, this routing method can impact performance and disaster recovery.
- Global Selective routing (GSR) - Bypass specific network locations in the Middle East where your users face connectivity issues due to firewall blockages when accessing your Salesforce sites or Experience Cloud sites. Use this routing method to redirect traffic to the nearest reliable network node.
