# Update Records Inline from a List View in Lightning Experience

Conveniently edit fields on records directly from a list view.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>All</strong> editions</td></tr></tbody></table>

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small permission">
        <colgroup>
          <col style="width:50%">
          <col style="width:50%">
        </colgroup>
        <thead class="slds-text-title_caps ">
          <tr class="">
            <th scope="colgroup" class="slds-cell-wrap" colspan="2" style="text-align:center;vertical-align:top;" id="d43201e62">User Permissions Needed</th>
          </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
          <tr class="">
            <td data-label="User Permissions Needed" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d43201e62 ">To edit fields on records:</td>

            <td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d43201e62 ">Edit on the object for the kind of record you’re editing</td>

          </tr>
        </tbody>
      </table>

Not all fields on records in a list view can be edited inline. To find out whether a field supports inline editing, hover over it and look for the pencil ![Pencil icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-basics-264-0-0-production-enus/d8bf6981-f8ef-4f16-bfbd-c42ed32044eb/resources-global/_corporate/images/pencil.png). Non-editable cells have a lock ![Lock icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-basics-264-0-0-production-enus/d8bf6981-f8ef-4f16-bfbd-c42ed32044eb/basics/images/lock_120.png). Inline editing doesn’t work for list views that contain multiple record types unless you select **Make inline edits in list views with multiple record types** in User Interface Settings. Otherwise, filter by a single record type before making inline edits.

As always, you can edit only the records that you have access to.

To edit fields in one row of a list view:

1. From the list, hover over the cell to edit, and then click ![Pencil icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-basics-264-0-0-production-enus/d8bf6981-f8ef-4f16-bfbd-c42ed32044eb/resources-global/_corporate/images/pencil.png).
2. Make your change in the editable cell or cells.

    A **Save** button appears at the bottom of the list view.
3. Save your changes.

    If other people make inline edits to the same fields on a record simultaneously, only the most recent edit is saved.

- **[Considerations for Inline Editing in a List View in Lightning Experience](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.basics_customviews_lv_lex_considerations.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
    Consider these points when editing fields on records directly from a list view in Lightning Experience. These considerations also apply when editing records in a multiline layout in Lightning Experience.
