# Customize the Welcome Email for Internal Users

For more control over branding, customize the welcome email that internal users, such as employees and contractors, receive when they first access your Salesforce org. To help users meet the email verification requirement, include a verification link in your template.

This feature is supported only for Classic email templates. You can't use Lightning email templates.

These steps are for customizing the welcome email template for users who access your Salesforce org. To customize the welcome email for external users who access Experience Cloud sites, see [Customize Email Sent from Experience Cloud Sites for Email Verification](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=experience.networks_customize_email.htm&language=en_US).

1. Create a Classic email template. See [Email Templates in Salesforce Classic](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.admin_emailtemplates.htm&language=en_US).

Salesforce requires that all users must have a verified email address to send outgoing emails. To help users complete email verification when they first access Salesforce, include the `{!NewUserWelcomeEmailLink}` merge field. This field is under Organization Fields. When you include this field in the welcome email, it gets replaced with a verification link at runtime. Users click the verification link and are directed to set a password for their account. After they set their password, their email address is considered verified.

If you don't want to include this link, there are other ways to meet the email verification requirement. See [User Email Address Verification](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.security_user_email_address_verification.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
2. Add the email to your org settings.
    1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Session Settings, and then select **Session Settings**.
    2. Under New User Welcome Email Settings, for Welcome Email Template, select ![Magnifying glass icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-xcloud-identity-264-0-0-production-enus/699dab6f-8f1a-4662-b24f-6521d5b747f7/resources-global/_corporate/images/lookup.png), and then search for your email template.
    3. If your email includes a `{!NewUserWelcomeEmailLink}` merge field, set the expiration time for the link in the **Link expires in** dropdown.
    4. Save your changes.
    5. Test that the welcome email appears as expected.
