Process Partner Returns Using Return Transactions

Process partner return transactions using the Create Partner Unsold Inventory Records and Create Partner Unsold Inventory Records Based on Eligible Programs data processing engine (DPE) definitions. These DPEs automate the adjustment of partner unsold inventory by debiting inventory quantities when a partner return is recorded. This integration reduces manual effort, ensures accurate channel inventory levels, and improves reconciliation between transaction journals and Partner Unsold Inventory (PUI) records.

Here are the high-level steps in the DPE templates:

  1. The DPE captures inventory returns submitted by partners. It processes Transaction Journals of type Partner Return Document to reflect the inventory movement from partner to manufacturer.
  2. Each Partner Return Transaction Journal includes a reference to the original sales document. The DPE uses this reference to locate the corresponding Partner Unsold Inventory (PUI) record and apply a debit for the returned quantity.
  3. The DPE identifies any unprocessed or partially processed quantities from valid Transaction Journals to ensure accurate reconciliation.
Example
Example A partner submits a return transaction for a quantity of 10, referencing the original sale document SJ1234. The DPE locates matching Partner Unsold Inventory records and validates that the returned quantity is within the available inventory limits. Upon successful validation, it debits 10 units from the inventory, updates the relevant PUI record, and creates a ledger entry to reflect the adjustment. The return Transaction Journal is then marked as Processed.

If the return quantity exceeds the available inventory or no matching record is found, the DPE logs an error message and updates the Transaction Journal status accordingly.

When creating a Transaction Journal (TJ), if a related journal is specified, the DPE doesn't check for account, product, or price. To ensure these are checked, use validation rules on Transaction Journals.
