# App Permissions on Android Devices

Learn the in-app user experience for Android devices when your app requests permission to a device capability.

To meet [Google Play’s requirements for prominent disclosure and consent](https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/10144311?sjid=4461315687489780748-NA#personal-sensitive), Mobile Publisher for Experience Cloud Android apps show users two prompts for granting your app permissions to device capabilities that Google defines as [runtime permissions](https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/permissions/overview#runtime). Examples of runtime permissions include permissions for a device’s location, camera, and audio.

In the first prompt, your app displays the permission description that you provide. Called a prominent disclosure, this description must clearly explain how your app uses the device capability, what user data is accessed, and how the data is used. If the user chooses to continue, the second prompt is the system-native dialog that requests permission to the device capability.

Important To turn on app permissions and enter your app’s permission descriptions, see [Enable App Permissions for Device Capabilities](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.branded_apps_user_permissions.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Configure the permissions that your app needs in your Mobile Publisher project in Setup."). If your app has features that require device permissions, such as device location, you must turn on the relevant permissions in Setup for Mobile Publisher.

Your app displays prompts with a prominent disclosure at these times.

- When a new app user accesses a feature that requires a runtime permission.
- When an app user, after tapping **Only this time** on an earlier permission request, accesses the feature that requires the runtime permission again.
- On devices with Android 13 and later, when a new app user logs in to your app, they're shown your app's prominent disclosure and permission request for notifications.

## Considerations for App Permissions on Android Devices

- Runtime permissions that require a prominent disclosure aren’t supported on your app’s login page. For example, access to a device’s camera isn’t supported on the login page.
- If an app user dismisses a request with a prominent disclosure, they won’t be prompted with the request again in the same session, even if they close and re-open the app (warm start).
- For the background location runtime permission, the app user is shown your prominent disclosure and then taken to their device’s Settings app, instead of the dialog that requests permission. When you write your app’s prominent disclosure, make sure to direct the user to update access to their background location in the Settings app.
- On Experience Cloud Android apps in versions prior to 14.0, your app’s prominent disclosure and permission request to post notifications is shown to users by default and can’t be modified. On app versions 14.0 and later, you can configure the Post Notification app permission in Setup for Mobile Publisher.
