# Activate a Theme

To customize your users’ visual experience, activate a theme that reflects your brand. Activate a custom theme that celebrates your brand identity, or use a built-in theme with preset color palettes and images. Either way, a theme elevates your Salesforce org and enhances the user experience.

Note When you activate an SLDS 2 theme, you enable SLDS 2 for your org. If you change your active theme from an SLDS 2 theme to an SLDS 1 theme, you disable SLDS 2 for your org. See [Transition to SLDS 2](https://www.lightningdesignsystem.com/2e1ef8501/p/8184ad-transition-to-slds-2).

When you activate a theme, it’s immediately applied to your org and visible to your users.

Most built-in themes don’t support customizations, but in some editions, you can enable dark mode for built-in or custom SLDS 2 themes.
