A Benefit Action comprises a Benefit Action template and a corresponding flow. Loyalty admins can define input variables in the Benefit Actions that are passed to the downstream flow. These input variables make the flows more generic because the behavior changes according to the input variables’ values. For example, you can use a Create Entitlement Flow whose behavior varies based on the input variable value (Standard or Priority) provided by your users.

To define input variables in a Benefit Action, perform these steps.

Note
Note The available variables correspond to the input variables present in the flow associated with the Benefit Action.
  1. After you create a Benefit Action, the Benefit Action Mapping screen appears.
  2. From the Member ID Input Variable picklist, select the flow input variable that maps to the Member Benefit ID.

  3. Select a field from the Input Fields picklist, then click Add.

  4. If necessary, edit the display name for the input field.
This name appears while mapping actions when the benefits are defined.
  5. Choose a field type. The Value field’s behavior changes based on your selection.
If the input variable in the flow is of the Boolean, Number, Date, or Date/Time data type, the values can’t be edited. However, if the input variable is Text, the field can be defined as Text, Picklist, or Picklist of Objects.
    • If you want the user to enter a text value, choose the Text field type.
    • If you want to provide users with a list of pre-defined options, choose the Picklist field type.
    • If you want to provide users with a picklist of options that is already defined in the picklist of another object, choose the Picklist of Objects field type.
  6. If you choose the Text field type, there is no corresponding Value field.
  7. If you choose the Picklist field type, define the picklist values in the available textbox . Add each picklist value on a separate line.
  8. For the Picklist of Objects field type, the Object picklist shows all the accessible Salesforce objects, and the Picklist Field lists the selected object’s related picklist fields.
Select an object and a related picklist field.
  9. Save your changes. The Benefit Action Details screen appears.

On the Map benefits to action screen, your users can enter values for the input variables you defined.
