Tip If your loyalty program has Corporate type members, customize the process created using the Update Member Details process template to update the Account records related to corporate members.

## How Do You Clone the Template if You Want to Credit Points to Members for Updating their Membership Profile?

You can clone the Update Member Details process template to update member details and credit points to members for updating their membership details.

Before you clone the Update Member Details process template, ensure that you create and activate a loyalty program process that credits points to members for updating their membership details. The process type of the loyalty program process must be TransactionJournal. Select a journal type and subtype that’s unique to the process, if you want to credit points to your member for updating member details. If you don’t want to credit any points, then leave the journal type and journal subtype fields blank.

When you clone the Update Member Details process template, select the same journal type and subtype as the loyalty program process that credits points to members for updating their membership details. The Update Member Details rule in the cloned process contains three steps. The third step in named Credit Points. The Credit Points step is a Run Program Process type action that runs the loyalty program process that you’ve created to credit points to members for the updating their membership details.

- The Journal Type can be any one of these values – Accrual, Redemption, Accrual Reversal, Redemption Reversal, Points Expiration, Qualifying Points Reset, and Manual Points Adjustment
- The Journal Subtype values include: CreditPointsSubtype, DebitPointsSubtype, Member Details Update, Member Enrollment, Member Referral and so on. You can filter and track the points by journal subtype so that are aware of points credited to members for a specific activity. For example, you can track the number points credited for member referrals.

Example Cloud Kicks has created a loyalty program process to credit 50 points to members whenever members update their membership profile. The process is named Credit Points for Membership Update. The journal type of the process is Accrual and the journal subtype is Member Details Update. Cloud Kicks wants to run one process to update membership details and credit points to members for updating their membership details.

Cloud Kicks clones the Update Member Details process template and selects Accrual as the journal type and Member Details Update as the journal subtype of the cloned process. The rule in the cloned process has three steps:

- Update Member Record
- Update Member’s Contact Record
- Credit Points

The Credit Points step runs the Credit Points for Membership Update loyalty program process.

## What Does the Template Contain?

The template contains a rule and set of parameters. The Update Member Details rule contains two steps, one to update the member’s Loyalty Program Member record and another to update the member’s Contact record. The parameters store values that the rule uses to update member details.

## How Can You Execute the Processes Created Using the Update Member Details Process Template?

Loyalty Management provides a Business API to execute processes created by cloning loyalty program process templates. The [UpdateMemberDetails API](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.loyalty.meta/loyalty/connect_resources_update_member_details.htm) can be integrated with an external system to ensure that it’s executed when a member changes their details on the external system. If members update their details on your ecommerce site, integrate the site with the API to ensure:

- The API is executed when members’ change their details
- The members’ changes are provided in the API request.

In the API, you must specify these values to execute the API for your cloned process:

- In the API endpoint, specify the API name of your cloned process.
- In the API request, specify the values for the parameters that are used in the Update Member Details rule.

You must specify the ID of the Loyalty Program Member record that must be updated, the ID allows the process to identify which member’s details must be updated.

When you execute the API, it runs the loyalty program process and the process updates the Loyalty Program Member and Contact records using the values provided in the API request. If the process contains the Credit Points step, the process selected in the step is automatically run to credit points to the member.

## Examples of How You Can Use the Template

You can clone and extend the template based on your requirements. Here are a few ways you can use the template:

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small ">
