Note This content relates to Salesforce Backup. Read about Backup & Recover in [Own from Salesforce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.own_from_salesforce.htm&type=5&language=en_US).

Before you start, make sure that you have the necessary permission set license and permission set. Read more in [Assign the Salesforce Backup License and Permission Set](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.backup_restore_permissions.htm&type=5&language=en_US).

1. In the Salesforce Backup app, click the **Settings** tab.
2. In the Provision a Region section, from the dropdown menu, select the AWS region where you want to store your backups. When selecting a region, keep in mind any data residency requirements that apply to your organization.

    | AWS Region | Location |
    | --- | --- |
    | ap-northeast-1 | Asia Pacific (Tokyo) |
    | ap-south-1 | Asia Pacific (Mumbai) |
    | ap-southeast-1 | Asia Pacific (Singapore) |
    | ap-southeast-2 | Asia Pacific (Sydney) |
    | ca-central-1 | Canada (Central) |
    | eu-central-1 | Europe (Frankfurt) |
    | eu-north-1 | Europe (Stockholm) |
    | eu-west-2 | Europe (London) |
    | eu-west-3 | Europe (Paris) |
    | sa-east-1 | South America (São Paulo) |
    | us-east-1 | US East (N. Virginia) |
    | us-west-2 | US West (Oregon) |
3. If you have no IP restrictions, click **Start**. However, if you do have IP restrictions:
    1. Add the IP address for the Salesforce Backup provisioning API (3.219.91.219) to the [Login IP Ranges](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.login_ip_ranges.htm&type=5&language=en_US) on your profile, and then click **Start**.

When provisioning is finished, an IP Addresses section appears on the page. It lists IP addresses that are specific to the AWS region that you selected.
    2. Add the IP addresses in the IP Addresses section to the Login IP Ranges for your user profile.
4. In the Set Up Your Connection section, click **Connect**. This action creates a secure connection by using OAuth 2.0 Web Server Flow between Salesforce and the data storage location in AWS.
5. Click **Test Connection**.

Testing a connection triggers a scheduled job on behalf of the integrated user.

When the test is successful, you're ready to create a backup policy.
