When you set up Salesforce Backup & Recover Next, you select a region to store your backup data. The region determines the physical location of your backed-up data and can differ from your Salesforce org's region. After setup, you can't change your backup region.

Choosing the right region helps you meet data residency requirements for your organization. Data residency is the physical or geographic location where data is stored. Your organization might have legal, regulatory, or compliance requirements that dictate where to store backup data.
Backup & Recover Next supports these regions for backup data storage.
| Salesforce Region Name | AWS Instance |
|---|---|
| Japan | ap-northeast-1 |
| GovCloud | us-gov-east-1 |
| India | ap-south-1 |
| US East | us-east-1 |
| US West | us-west-2 |
Your backup region can be different from your Salesforce org's region. For example, your org can be hosted in the United States while your backup data is stored in Japan. Select the region that meets your data residency requirements when you set up Salesforce Backup & Recover Next.
