# Alert Salesforce to Potential High Usage Events

Communicate and work with Salesforce to prepare for increased use in your org.

Salesforce uses a multi-tenant architecture, which means that multiple customers are supported on a database instance. Customers of all sizes have access to a shared pool of processing capacity, data storage, and product features. To protect these shared resources, Salesforce enforces limitations, such as governor limits, to prevent overuse while providing flexibility if a customer needs additional capacity during one-off usage spikes. However, unexpected surges in processing capacity can impact not only your own org’s performance, but also the performance of other tenants sharing your instance.

- Contact Salesforce as soon as possible if you anticipate a significant usage increase.

Common examples include rolling out a Salesforce implementation to a significant number of users or during a holiday campaign and promotional event. Salesforce can help estimate the server capacity and resourcing needs and then determine if any additional action is required. For example, temporarily adjusting governor limits or migrating your org to an instance with additional capacity are common solutions.
- If you have the [Signature Success Plan](https://www.salesforce.com/services/success-plans/overview/signature-success-plans/), work with the Salesforce Signature team to prepare for high usage events as part of the Key Events Management offering.
