# Configure Timesheet Entry Item Fields

Create custom fields on the TimeSheetEntryItem object and update page layouts to make sure that technicians can enter the necessary details during their shifts.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col style="width:100%"></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: All editions of Field Service Plus for Energy &amp; Utilities, and all editions of Asset Service Lifecycle Management</td></tr></tbody></table>

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small permission">
        <colgroup>
          <col style="width:50%">
          <col style="width:50%">
        </colgroup>
        <thead class="slds-text-title_caps ">
          <tr class="">
            <th scope="colgroup" class="slds-cell-wrap" colspan="2" style="text-align:center;vertical-align:top;" id="d21969e61">User
              Permissions Needed</th>
          </tr>
        </thead>
        <tbody>
          <tr class="">
            <td data-label="User Permissions Needed" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d21969e61 ">To access Timesheets objects:</td>

            <td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d21969e61 ">Labor Cost Optimization Supervisor</td>

          </tr>
        </tbody>
      </table>

1. From Setup, select **Object Manager**.
2. Select **TimeSheetEntryItem**.
3. Select **Fields & Relationships**, and then select **New**.
4. Create the custom fields required for your business process.

    Note: **StartTime** and **EndTime** fields are of the type dateTime, but the user only enters the time. The system calculates the final dateTime by using the Timesheet’s **StartDate** plus the input time. The **Status** field is ignored.
5. Select **Page Layouts**.
6. Create a page layout or update an existing one to include your new fields.
7. Assign this page layout to the technician user profile to make sure that it’s used when creating a time sheet entry.

    Note If you add a field that is read-only for create or update operations, it’s removed from the mobile app regardless of the operation being performed. Only supported data types (text, picklist, lookup, number, date, dateTime, time, text area, and Long Text Area) appear on the mobile app.
8. If you added a custom or standard object as a lookup, verify that the technician has access to the object records and the timesheet item entries lookup field.
9. If access is missing, create a permission set.
    1. Go to **Object Settings** and select the object.
    2. Select **Edit** and turn on **Read and View All Records** permissions.
10. In **Object Settings**, select **Time Sheet Entry Item**.
11. Select **Field Permissions**.
12. Select **Edit** and turn on **Read** and **Write** permissions for the lookup field.
13. Save your changes.
