# Create an Inventory Replenishment Policy

Inventory managers design inventory replenishment policies to define how product items are replenished when they reach predefined levels. Create policies at both a granular level, such as individual products at specific locations, and at a broader level, such as product categories across all locations. Inventory managers define the minimum quantity at which product items must be replenished and the maximum quantity until which product items can be replenished.

The preset replenishment quantity formula is based on the selected Replenishment Quantity Basis:

Maximum Inventory Quantity − Quantity On Hand (if the basis is Quantity On Hand), Maximum Inventory Quantity − Quantity Available (if the basis is Quantity Available), or Maximum Inventory Quantity − the selected custom numeric field's value (if the basis is a custom field).

You can edit the Replenishment Quantity Formula field on the inventory replenishment policy records by using REST API tools such as Postman.

1. From the App Launcher, find and select **Inventory Replenishment Policies**, and then click **New**.
2. Enter a name for the inventory replenishment policy.
3. If needed, enter a description for the policy.
4. Enter an effective start date for the policy.
5. If needed, enter an effective end date for the policy.
6. Select the status of the policy.
    - Draft
    - Active
    - Inactive
7. For Replenishment Quantity Basis, select whether the policy should trigger based on Quantity On Hand, Quantity Available, or a custom numeric field on the Product Item entity. Quantity Available excludes unusable and allocated quantities.
8. In Product Reference Record, select the product or product category of the product items that the policy applies to.
9. In Location Reference Record, perform one of these actions to define the location of the product items that the policy applies to.

    - To apply the policy to product items at a specific location, search for and select the location.
    - To apply the policy to product items at all locations, select **All**.

If you don't select a location reference record, the policy is applied to product items at all locations.
10. In Replenishment Action, specify the action to be taken to replenish the product items that are covered by the policy.

    | | |
    | --- | --- |
    | Product Request | Creates or updates product request and product request line item records to represent requests for replenishing the covered product items. |
    | None | No action is taken. |
11. Enter the minimum quantity at which the product item is replenished, based on the selected Replenishment Quantity Basis.

The replenishment action is triggered when a product item's quantity — on hand, available, or the value of the selected custom field, based on the policy's basis — reaches the minimum inventory quantity in the product item's applicable policy.
12. Enter the maximum quantity until which the product item is replenished.
13. In Replenishment Source Location Criterion, select the basis of determining the location that the product item is replenished from. <table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small ">
          <thead class="slds-text-title_caps ">

Example

A company has these product items.

| Product item | Product | Location | Quantity on hand |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Air Fryer Mini at London | Air Fryer Mini | London Warehouse | 42 |
| Hand Mixer XL at Manchester | Hand Mixer XL | Manchester Warehouse | 54 |
| Coffee Machine Ultra at Edinburgh | Coffee Machine Ultra | Edinburgh Warehouse | 35 |
| Mixer Grinder Mini at Birmingham | Mixer Grinder Mini | Birmingham Warehouse | 12 |

An inventory manager at the company creates these inventory replenishment policies.

| name | Replenishment Action | Product Reference record | Location Reference record | Minimum Inventory location | Maximum Inventory location | Replenishment Source Location Criterion | Replenishment Source Location |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Air Fryer Mini at London | Product Request | Air Fryer Mini | London Warehouse | 50 | 100 | Replenishment Source Location | Edinburgh Warehouse |
| Hand Mixer XL at Manchester | Product Request | Hand Mixer XL | Manchester Warehouse | 30 | 150 | Replenishment Source Location | London Warehouse |
| Coffee Machine Ultra at Edinburgh | Product Request | Coffee Machine Ultra | Edinburgh Warehouse | 40 | 70 | Product Fulfillment Location | Determined by fulfillment configuration |
| Mixer Grinder Mini at Birmingham | None | Mixer Grinder Mini | Birmingham Warehouse | 30 | 100 | Replenishment Source Location | Manchester Warehouse |

After an automated replenishment process runs, these product requests are created.

| Product Request Number | Inventory Replenishment Policy | Product Request Line Item Number | Product | Quantity Requested | Source Location | Destination Location |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
