Managing and Performing Inventory Counts

Inventory count managers plan and schedule inventory counts by creating inventory count plans. They add product items to be counted to count plans and assign them to inventory auditors. Inventory auditors perform counts for serialized and non-serialized products at designated inventory locations by using the Salesforce Field Service mobile app. Inventory managers can track count progress and captured quantities.

  • How Inventory Count Information Is Represented
Inventory count records store information about your inventory, inventory count plans, and counted inventory at inventory locations. Different records represent different aspects of the inventory count lifecycle, such as activities to count products at designated locations, the schedules of counting sets of products, and the serial numbers of counted products.
  • Create an Inventory Count Plan
Inventory managers can create cycle and ad hoc inventory counts for different inventory locations. Schedule count plans for different locations based on your operational needs, regulatory requirements, and business cycles. To reduce administrative overhead, you can use Location Hierarchies to perform inventory counts across hierarchical structures, such as warehouses or service fleets, without creating separate plans for each room, aisle, or vehicle belonging to the location for which the inventory plan was created. Set a schedule for counts for a plan by specifying when counts start and end, how often counts occur, and the window for performing each count. The schedules of inventory count plans determine the schedules of inventory count assessments.
  • Add Product Items to an Inventory Count Plan
Inventory managers can easily add product items to inventory count plans and assign the inventory auditors to count the product items. For each set of product items added to a count plan, inventory managers define if the count is a blind count and provide count instructions to auditors. After product items are added to count plans, Inventory Count Plan Item records are created. These records are created or updated: Inventory Count Assessment and Inventory Count Product Item.
  • Perform Inventory Count by Using Salesforce Field Service Mobile App
Inventory auditors can record inventory counts for serialized and non-serialized products at inventory locations by using the Salesforce Field Service mobile app. Quickly capture counts by entering count details or scanning product barcodes. Note the reasons for count discrepancies and key instructions, observations, or contextual details. If you count products in batches, or if the counting is interrupted, save your count progress intermittently and resume your count later.
