Deallocate Inventory

Deallocating inventory releases previously reserved stock when it is no longer required. This can occur when an order is canceled, modified, or when allocated quantities need to be made available for other demand sources.

User Permissions Needed
To deallocate inventory: Inventory allocation permission set
  1. Select the products in the Inventory Allocation component.
  2. Click Deallocate.

The system processes the request and updates the status to Not Allocated, releasing the soft reservation.

A notification confirms when the deallocation is complete. Refresh the component to see the updated status.

Note
Note Deleting an OrderLineItem or ReturnOrderLineItem does not automatically release allocated inventory. Instead, the system clears the ItemReservationSourceId (sets it to null) and keeps the InventoryItemReservation record. Users must manually cancel reservations before deleting records to free available stock and serialized units.

When an item is fully deallocated at the location level, the InventoryItemReservation record changes to a Canceled state and cannot be reused. Any subsequent reallocation creates a new record. For serialized products, deallocating specific serial numbers changes the child InventoryItemInstanceReservation records to a Canceled state, while the parent InventoryItemReservation record remains Reserved.
