# Create Unit of Measure

A unit of measure quantifies the consumption of a usage resource.

1. From the App Launcher, find and select **Units of Measure**.
2. Click **New**.
3. Enter a name, a unique unit code (for example, EA, CS12, or PAL), and a description.
4. To group the unit of measure under a class, select a unit of measure class.
5. To show the unit of measure in a specific order in a list, enter a sequence number.
6. Enter a conversion factor that converts the value of the unit of measure into the default unit of measure of the unit of measure class.
7. Select a type of measurement.
    
    You can add values to the type picklist. See [Add or Edit Picklist Values](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.updating_picklists.htm&language=en_US&type=5).
8. Select a status.
    
    - **Draft**: Indicates that this record is still open for modifications. This is the default value.
    - **Active**: Indicates that the record is active and available for product packaging and order capture calculations.
    - **Inactive**: Indicates that the record isn't in use.
9. Save your changes.
