System Limits and Scalability

Dimension Supported Limit Operational Recommendation
Pre-populated Assortment Items per order Assortments view loads up to 2,500 products. The All Products view loads 500 products on initial load. Scope assortments by store format or warehouse location to keep pre-populated proposal lists under 1,000 items for optimal rendering.
Order line items per order Up to 350 line items per order (Average: 14 lines; Tested range: 1–238 lines) Limit single order documents to 350 line items. Split exceptionally large bulk orders into multiple transactions.
Order View Response Time Less than 3 seconds Ensure Product Discovery search indexing is active to maintain sub-2-second grid load times.
End-to-End Order Capture Action Time 1–10 minutes per order Leverage suggested quantities and pre-populated assortments to minimize live call duration.
Daily Telesales Volume Throughput 5,000–20,000 orders per day Solution scales to support peak daily transaction volumes across high-volume sales units.
Concurrent User Capacity Up to 22,000+ multi-market concurrent users (PepsiCo baseline: 350–450 peak concurrent telesales reps) Ensure system permissions and IOU sharing rules are scoped cleanly per market unit.
Assortment Size & Modules Up to 10,000 products per assortment / Up to 10 listing modules per assortment Use listing modules to segment broad assortments by retail store format (e.g., Hypermarket vs. Supermarket).
Historical orders evaluated for suggestions Up to 200 past orders per call Keep the lookback window tight enough that the account's relevant order history fits within 200 orders, so suggestions reflect recent buying patterns.

Feature Capabilities and Scope

Order Capture Channel
Advanced Orders for Telesales is designed for assisted, rep-driven order capture. It's not a self-service commerce storefront.
Direct and Indirect Orders
The framework supports both direct orders (fulfilled by the manufacturer) and indirect orders (fulfilled through a wholesaler or broker).
Pricing
Pricing is calculated through the pricing procedure and expression sets in the rules engine. The framework relies on your configured pricing decision tables and expression sets rather than performing pricing calculations independently.
Product Discovery
Product listings on the order entry grid are driven by assortments, listings, and search indexing through Product Discovery. Products that aren't authorized or indexed for the account's market unit don't appear.
ERP Release
Activated orders are released to your downstream ERP or fulfillment system through your configured integration. The framework doesn't handle ERP-side fulfillment or shipping.
List View Filtering and Scoping
The Orders by Business Unit list view shows orders whose Internal Organization Unit (IOU) matches any IOU assigned to the current user, whether default or non-default. Orders created without an Order Specification have no assigned IOU, so they don’t appear in this list view. This list view functionality requires the MACZ Advanced Order org permission to be enabled (MACZ refers to Manufacturing, Automotive, Consumer Goods, or Net Zero).

Operational and Configuration Requirements

Internal Organization Unit (IOU) Scoping
Products, catalogs, accounts, order templates, and users must share a consistent IOU alignment. Misaligned IOU scoping is the most common cause of missing products and blocked order saves.
Product Discovery Indexing
Keep search indexing enabled and current. Enable Automatic Product Catalog Index Update so that assortment and listing changes are reflected on the order entry grid.
Pricing Configuration
Configure and activate the pricing procedure, decision tables, and expression sets before reps capture orders. Orders can't be priced without an active pricing configuration.
Order and Item Specifications
Define order specifications (OrderSpec) and order product specifications (OrderItemSpec) that reflect your ordering rules, including allowed orderer types, lead times, and lookback periods.
Assortments and Listings
Assign store assortments and location assortments to accounts and warehouses so that reps see the correct authorized products.
Permissions
Grant reps and admins the required permission set licenses and permission sets, including Order Capture for Manufacturing and the relevant Product Catalog Management and Business Rules Engine permissions.
