# Configure Account Roles for Orderer Validation

Configure account roles to set the allowed orderer type (Direct or Indirect) for customer accounts. This setup ensures that telesales reps can select only order specifications that match the customer's authorized orderer type.

1. From the App Launcher, find and select **Account Roles**.
2. Click **New**, or open an existing Account Role record.
3. Enter a name for the account role.
4. For **Allowed Orderer Type**, select the ordering classification.
    
    - **Direct**: The customer places orders directly with the manufacturer.
    - **Indirect**: The customer places orders that are fulfilled through a third-party wholesaler or broker.
5. Save your changes.
6. Assign the AccountRole record to the customer account.

Note During order creation, the system matches AccountRole.AllowedOrdererType against the AllowedOrdererTypes field on the selected order specification. If the orderer types don't match, the system prevents the order save and displays a validation error.
