# Use Data Processing Engine (DPE) for Accrual and Payout Calculations

Clone and activate Data Processing Engine definitions to calculate accruals. Rebate and Accrual Management Advanced uses a coordinated sequence of six Data Processing Engine (DPE) definitions to move and calculate data between Salesforce Core and Data Cloud.

| 1 | Advanced Rebate and Accrual Pre-Processing - Rule Configuration | Maps your program rules (tiers, dates, anchors) into metadata that Data Cloud understands. | Converts your "Gold Tier" $5/unit rule into a Rule Meta record in Data Cloud. |
| 2 | Advanced Rebate and Accrual Pre-Processing - Data Preparation | Ingests raw data from Transaction Journals and Member records into the specific Data Lake Objects (DLO) used by the engine. | Pulls 1 million invoice records from the last week into the Input Ingest DLO. |
| 3 | Accrual and Payout Engine - Delta Calculation | Compares the current run with the previous run based on specific benefit dates to identify which new or modified records are eligible for calculation. | Identifies that a partner added 50 more units to an existing invoice since yesterday's run. |
| 4 | Accrual and Payout Engine - Rule Processing | Executes the actual financial calculations to generate accruals and payouts for the qualified transactions. It qualifies transactions against tiers (Retroactive or Stepped) and calculates the projected amount. | Applies a $5 rate to 1,000 units because the member just crossed the 5,000-unit threshold. |

The Advanced engine uses a set of Stage Data Lake Objects (DLOs) in Data Cloud to manage accuracy during mid-period changes and ensure correct calculations across runs. Note If Data Cloud was active in your org before you enabled Rebate and Accrual Management Advanced, update the Data Cloud Salesforce Connector permission set to grant Read access to all Rebate objects before running the DPE definitions.
