Decoupled Accrual and Payout	Define accrual frequency and logic independently from payout frequency and logic. Recognize liabilities more frequently (for example, weekly) than the payouts you settle (for example, monthly or quarterly), using different benefit tiers for each if needed.

Accrual Calculation	Retrospective: The rebate is applied to all units once a higher tier is reached. The new rate applies to all units, not just the additional ones. Stepped: The rebate is calculated for each tier separately. For example, if the first 50 units have a rebate of $500 and the next 25 units have a rebate of $500, the total accrual is calculated by summing these amounts.
