# Connect Your External Apps to Salesforce Suites

Before you can sync your data between Salesforce and external apps, establish a connection to the app.

Your setup path depends on whether you start from a prebuilt flow template. Follow the path that matches your integration.

Note Before you begin, make sure that you have administrator login credentials for the external app that you're connecting to.

## Set Up a Connection by Using a Prebuilt Template

Use this path when you connect to an app that offers a prebuilt template, such as Google Sheets, HubSpot, Jira, QuickBooks Online, or Zendesk.

1. Add a connector to your external app with the guided wizard.

See [Add a Connector to an External App With the Guided Wizard](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.add_a_connection_guided_wizard.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Connect to an external app by using the guided connection wizard.").
2. Set your flow's input values for Jira and Google Sheets integrations.

See [Set the Flow Input Values for Jira and Google Sheets Integrations](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.add_a_connection_edit_input_values.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "To finish setting up a Jira or Google Sheets flow, set its input values in Flow Builder so Salesforce knows exactly what data to sync.").
3. Turn on the flow so that your data starts syncing.

See [Activate the Flow in Flow Builder](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.add_a_connection_activate_flow.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Before you can sync your data between Salesforce Suites and your external apps, activate your flow in Flow Builder.").
4. Turn off a flow when you no longer need it, if applicable.

See [Deactivate a Flow in Flow Builder](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.add_a_connection_deactivate_flow.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "To turn off a flow, deactivate it in Flow Builder.").

If your flow uses custom fields, grant profile access so that your users can see the fields on their record pages. See [Grant Profile Access to Custom Fields](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.add_a_connection_profile_access.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "If your flow uses custom fields, grant field-level access so that users assigned to a profile can see the fields on their record pages.").

## Set Up a Connection Without a Template

Use this path to build a flow from scratch when connecting to an app that doesn't offer a prebuilt template.

1. Add a connector to your external app without the guided wizard.

See [Add a Connector to an External App Without the Guided Wizard](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.add_a_connection_no_wizard.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Connect to an external app by using direct configuration.").
2. Build a flow to move data between Salesforce and your external app.

See [Build a Flow to Move Your Data](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.build_a_flow_to_move_your_data.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Set up the triggers and actions that move data between Salesforce Suites and your connected external app.").

If your flow uses custom fields, add them to your page layout and grant profile access so that your users can see the fields on their record pages. See [Add Custom Fields to Your Page Layout](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.add_a_connection_custom_fields_layout.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "If your flow uses custom fields, add them to your record page layout so that your users can see them. For example, if you created a custom Jira Status field that belongs on the Case page, use Lightning App Builder to add it to that page layout.") and [Grant Profile Access to Custom Fields](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.add_a_connection_profile_access.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "If your flow uses custom fields, grant field-level access so that users assigned to a profile can see the fields on their record pages.").
