Before you search for volunteers:

- Add Person Location Availability and Person Competencies related lists to the Person Account page layout.
- Create Person Accounts for your volunteers and include their availability and competencies.

Note Person accounts were not built to work with Nonprofit Success Pack and therefore, are not supported for use with NPSP. If Person Accounts are not already enabled in your org, don't enable them. Once you turn on Person Accounts in your organization, you can't turn the feature off. See NPSP and Person Accounts in [NPSP FAQ](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.npsp_faq.htm&language=en_US).
- Create volunteer initiatives.
- Create job positions.
- Create job position shifts.

Matching is inclusive. A volunteer with a Qualification Level (QL) equal to or greater than the required level is a match. For example, a requirement of 2 matches levels 2, 3, 4, and higher.

1. From the Volunteer Management app, go to the Search for Volunteers tab.
2. Select the volunteer initiative.
3. Select a job position to fulfill.
4. To match volunteers by the qualifications assigned to the job position, select which qualifications to require for volunteer eligibility.

Matching considers Position Qualifications (PQs) and Job Position Qualifications (JPQs). You can deselect qualifications, as needed. To match volunteers without considering their qualification, leave the qualification unselected.
5. To match volunteers by the job position shift or by a date-and-time range, select the method and shift or date-and-time range.

Shift results show today’s shifts and those shifts in the future.

To match volunteers without considering the date and time, select **Don’t match volunteers by date and time**.
6. To match volunteers by the location of the position, select **Search by job position location**. To match volunteers without considering the location, select **Don’t match volunteers by location**.
7. Click **Search Volunteers**.

Volunteers who match your search criteria populate the table to the right of the search parameters. If matched volunteers have already signed up to volunteer, the table notes the related Job Position Assignment (JPA) or Job Position Shift (JPS). To see the volunteer’s JPA or JPS in the table, expand the volunteer’s row in the table.
8. To get different volunteer search results, click **Reset Criteria**, and select different matching criteria.

If you don’t select any matching criteria, no volunteers appear in the results. To view and manage all volunteers without filtering, use Lists instead.
9. To keep a copy of the results to use to contact potential volunteers, click **Export Results** to download a CSV file of the results.

The CSV file saves to the Job Position record, on the Related tab, under Files.
