# Create Job Position Qualifications

After you create a job position, create qualifications to make sure that volunteers meet the requirements for the job position. Job position qualifications are additive and apply only to the specific job position. Set qualifications to help you determine who's the right volunteer for the job.

Job positions define specific roles that link directly to broader, generic-type positions. For example, an organization that offers tutoring services could have Virtual Tutor as a position and Algebra Virtual Tutor-Pacific Time as a related job position. Job position qualifications describe the requirements for those specific jobs.

1. From the Job Position Qualifications page, click **New**.

The New Job Position Qualification window opens.
2. Select the job position that this qualification is for, or [create one](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.volunteer_mgmt_create_job_positions.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "After you create volunteer initiatives, create job positions that support those initiatives. Job positions are customized roles for working your initiatives with shifts and qualifications that help you match the perfect volunteers for the initiatives.").
3. For the Qualification Reference Record, select either **Competency** or **Examination**.

    1. To make the qualification standard a demonstrated competency, select **Competency**.
    2. To make the qualification standard an exam, select **Examination**.

If the examination or competency doesn’t exist, create one.
4. If applicable, enter a qualification level, select a proficiency level, and enter a description for the qualification.

Note To match volunteers to a position or job position, set a qualification level on both the position qualification and job position qualification. You can map qualification level integers to proficiency level dynamic values, such as Beginner, Intermediate, or Expert. You can also map them to values like Desired, Preferred, or Mandatory.
5. Save your work.

The job position qualification saves to the Job Position Qualification page. Salesforce automatically assigns an alphanumeric name to the new qualification.
