Components within the managed package, such as objects and fields, can't be modified. They're locked with limited edit access so that the managed package can be automatically upgraded.

For information about managed and unmanaged packages, see [Understanding Packages](https://help.salesforce.com/articleview?id=sharing_apps.htm) in Salesforce Help.

## Before You Install PMM

You must have a Salesforce org with My Domain enabled before you can install PMM. If you don't have a Salesforce org, we recommend starting with a Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) trial.

Before you install PMM:

1. If you don't have an org, visit the [NPSP trial page](https://www.salesforce.org/trial/npsp/) and sign up for a free trial of NPSP. If you already have an org, skip this step.
2. Log in to your trial or existing org.
3. Verify that My Domain is enabled, and if it's not, enable it. See [My Domain](https://help.salesforce.com/articleview?id=domain_name_overview.htm) in Salesforce help.
4. Continue to the next section to install PMM.

## Install PMM

Salesforce recommends installing in a Sandbox environment or a Developer org before installing into a Production org.

For more information, see [Create a Sandbox](https://help.salesforce.com/articleview?id=data_sandbox_create.htm&type=5) in Salesforce Help.

1. Log out of all other Salesforce orgs. You may want to use an incognito window to ensure you install in the correct org.
2. Go to the [Program Management Module](https://install.salesforce.org/products/program-management) installer page.
3. Click **Install Program Management Management Module - View Details.**
4. Click **Log In to Start Pre-Install Validation**, then select **Production or Developer Org** or **Sandbox or Scratch Org**.
5. Log in to the org.
6. Click **Allow**.
7. Click **Install**. You’ll see a confirmation when PMM installs successfully.
8. Click **View Org** to access your new org.
9. Complete all the steps in [Required Post-Installation Tasks](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.pmm_postinstall.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "After you install PMM, complete the required post-installation tasks.").
