# Using NPSP Data Import Templates

Start here to learn how to use the NPSP Data Import Templates for your imports.

Open one of the [NPSP Data Importer Templates](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.npsp_data_importer_templates.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Use these templates to import your data into Salesforce using the NPSP Data Importer object.") in your favorite spreadsheet application so you can see how the data needs to be structured.

- Each row contains the data you’re importing into Contacts, Accounts, Addresses, Opportunities, or other objects.
- Each column represents a field on one of several objects. Some fields require special formatting such as email, postal code, and ID fields. To understand the correct data formats, refer to the instructions included in each template.

Add or remove fields from the template to suit your import requirements. Don’t forget to configure Advanced Mapping for any fields you add to the template. For guidance, see [Advanced Mapping Overview](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.npsp_adv_mapping_overview.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Advanced Mapping gives you the flexibility to send data to most Salesforce objects related to Contacts, Accounts, and Opportunities.").

Now that you're familiar with the template and understand the expected data structure, you're ready to [Clean and Format Your Data](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.npsp_clean_format_data.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Learn to clean and format your data prior to importing it into Salesforce. Improperly formatted data causes errors during import.").
