## Sample Uses for Language

Your institution might track the languages spoken by students and faculty, languages Courses are taught in, or languages that students are learning.

- University—Track languages offered as Courses at your institution.
- International university—Track languages spoken by faculty, especially if courses are taught in multiple countries or in populations with more than one dominant language.
- K-12—Track the preferred language of students’ households or guardians.

## Configure Language

Consider these configuration changes, depending on your use of Language in K-12 Architecture Kit.

- To track the language a course is taught in, add a Language lookup field to the Course Offering page layout.
- To track the language used in a household, add a Language lookup field to the Household Account page layout.

For more information, see [Display a New Custom Object After a Product Release](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleview?id=sfdo.k12_display_cust_obj_post_rel.htm) and [Add a Lookup Field to a Page Layout](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleview?id=sfdo.k12_add_lookup_field.htm).

## Create Language Records

Create Language records for every language recognized by your school. All of the languages you enter are available from the Language lookup field that you can add to your page layouts.

1. Go to the Languages tab and click **New**. If you don't see the tab, from the App Launcher, find and select **Languages**, and click **New**.
2. On the New Language page, enter the name of a language and click **Save & New**.
