# Configure K-12 Architecture Kit Basics

Assign record types to profiles, and page layouts to record types, so that users have access to the records that they need.

- **[Assign Record Types to Profiles](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.k12_configure_basics.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Depending on the version that you started with, it's possible that some record type assignments are different in your org. Make sure that these record types are assigned to the System Administrator profile, at a minimum, and repeat this configuration for other profiles as needed.
- **[Assign Page Layouts](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.k12_configure_basics.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
For objects with page layout assignments that vary by record type, and for custom objects, the default page layout assignments can require configuration. Make sure that these layouts are assigned to the System Administrator profile, at a minimum, and repeat this configuration for other profiles as needed.
- **[Specify the Household Account Model](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.k12_configure_basics.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
When you install K-12 Architecture Kit using the installer, the Administrative account model is enabled by default. Because family relationships are central to K-12 student success, and tracking data about a student's household can be as important as tracking data about students themselves, we recommend that you change the default Account model to Household Accounts.

## Specify the Household Account Model

When you install K-12 Architecture Kit using the installer, the Administrative account model is enabled by default. Because family relationships are central to K-12 student success, and tracking data about a student's household can be as important as tracking data about students themselves, we recommend that you change the default Account model to Household Accounts.

After making this change, any time you create a new, independent Contact (that is, a Contact that is not part of another Account), K-12 Architecture Kit automatically creates a Household Account for you, based on the Contact's last name. For example, if you create a new Contact record for a student named Bobby Smith, the Smith Household Account is created for you.

1. From the App Launcher ![App Launcher icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sfdo-k12_architecture_kit-264-0-0-production-enus/aa53d0d1-adc5-4af6-adb8-c34704f68202/resources-product/images/app_launcher_icon.png), find and select **EDA Settings**.
2. On the System tab, click **Edit**.
3. From Default Account Model, choose **Household Account**.
4. Click **Save**.

That's it! You're now all set up to start using K-12 Architecture Kit.
