# Customize the Single Gift Entry Form

Customize the Single Gift Entry form to fit the way your org enters gifts.

The Single Gift Entry form is designed to be a single-page solution for entering every important detail about your gifts. However, Salesforce is a platform that lets you customize your solution, so it’d be a real shame if you couldn’t use your customizations here too, right?

To that end, you can add your own custom fields to the Single Gift Entry form, and even make certain fields dependent on others, so that they appear only when a field is set to a specific value.

- **[Change the Single Gift Entry Form Layout](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.gem_customize_single_gift_entry_form.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Add sections and fields to the Single Gift Entry Form layout.
- **[Set Up Dynamic Fields](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.gem_customize_single_gift_entry_form.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
With the dynamic fields feature, additional fields appear immediately when another field is set to a specific value.

## Change the Single Gift Entry Form Layout

Add sections and fields to the Single Gift Entry Form layout.

GEM uses a standard Salesforce page layout as its interface, letting you define the fields in the Single Gift Entry form. The top section (labeled “DO NOT EDIT”) is not editable, but you can change the layout of fields and field sections below it.

1. Click ![Setup](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sfdo-gift_entry_manager-264-0-0-production-enus/06e55002-f089-4a3e-bc0c-67a1c776fdd3/resources-product/images/setup.png), then click **Setup**.
2. Click the **Object Manager** tab.
3. In the list of objects, click **Opportunity**.
4. Click **Page Layouts**.
5. Click **Single Gift Entry Customization**.
6. Drag a Section from the palette to below the section marked “DO NOT EDIT.”

    1. Name the section, but do not change any of the other Section Properties.
    2. Click **OK**.
    3. Repeat as needed to add more sections.
7. Now drag fields into the sections you just created.
8. Click **Save**.

Some things to note regarding the fields here:

- You can make a field required on the page layout. This makes the field required on the Single Gift Entry form as well.
- The Tribute and Matching Gift sections on the page layout are fully editable; you can add fields, remove them, or even remove the entire sections.
- You can’t remove fields from the section marked "DO NOT EDIT."
- Related lists aren’t currently supported.
- These field types are supported: Currency, Date, Date/Time, Email, Lookup, Number, Percent, Phone, Text, Text (Long), Text (Rich), URL. Checkbox is supported only when set up in a specific way; see [Mapping a Checkbox in NPSP Data Import Object](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleview?id=sfdo.npsp_use_advanced_mapping.htm) in the NPSP documentation for more information.
- Neither dependent picklists, nor their controlling picklists, are supported.
- Don’t forget to add any fields added here to your page layouts as well. Keep in mind that if you add a field to this page layout as you’re creating it, it's added to the DO NOT EDIT section and must be moved.

Important Do not delete or change the name of this page layout! GEM looks for this page layout by name, and if it can't find it, the Single Gift Entry form doesn't load. If you inadvertently delete it, contact Salesforce Customer Support.

After you've added your fields to the page layout, you must map the fields in the NPSP Data Import object.

![Important](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sfdo-gift_entry_manager-264-0-0-production-enus/06e55002-f089-4a3e-bc0c-67a1c776fdd3/images/icon_important.png)

Important If you enabled Advanced Mapping, you should use the Advanced Mapping interface to connect the fields. For information about connecting fields, see [Connect Objects and Fields with Advanced Mapping](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleview?id=sfdo.npsp_use_advanced_mapping.htm) in the NPSP documentation.

To use Help Text mapping, follow these steps for each field that you added to the form:

1. Click ![Setup](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sfdo-gift_entry_manager-264-0-0-production-enus/06e55002-f089-4a3e-bc0c-67a1c776fdd3/resources-product/images/setup.png), then click **Setup**.
2. Click the **Object Manager** tab.
3. In the list of objects, click **NPSP Data Import**.
4. Click **Fields and Relationships**.
5. Click **New**.
6. Create a custom field that corresponds to the added field. Make sure the field meets these requirements.

    1. The field type should match the type of the original field, with one exception: we recommend using the Text type to correspond to a source picklist field. This difference doesn't cause any problems, and saves you from maintaining multiple picklist fields in the NPSP Data Import object if you need to make changes.
    2. The Help Text _must_ contain the API definition of the added field, specifically the object name and the field name. For example, if you’re adding the Opportunity field, Stock Ticker, the Help Text must contain “Opportunity.Stock\_Ticker\_\_c."
7. Click **Save**.

After you've created the fields, be sure to grant the new field permissions to any user with Single Gift Entry permissions.

## Set Up Dynamic Fields

With the dynamic fields feature, additional fields appear immediately when another field is set to a specific value.

Some pieces of data need to be collected only some of the time, so why take up space on the Single Gift Entry form until they're needed? With the dynamic fields feature, additional fields appear immediately when another field is set to a specific value, without having to first save the record.

Currently, the only field that can trigger the appearance of additional fields is Payment Method.

Note Configuring dependent Single Gift Entry fields requires knowing how to format a JSON input. This is similar to writing—and requires some familiarity with—basic code. Feel free to try things here (pay attention to existing formatting and Copy/Paste where you can), but make sure you preserve a copy of the original Dependent Field List value before making changes to it, in case you need to restore it.

To change Payment Method dependencies:

1. Click ![Setup](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sfdo-gift_entry_manager-264-0-0-production-enus/06e55002-f089-4a3e-bc0c-67a1c776fdd3/resources-product/images/setup.png), then click **Setup**.
2. From Setup, enter Custom Metadata Types in the Quick Find box, then select **Custom Metadata Types**.
3. Click **Manage Records** next to Gift Entry Field Mapping.
4. Click **Edit** next to Payment.
5. This action displays the editable list of data that enables the field dependency. Edit only the **Dependent Field List** field. All other fields on this page must remain as they are for the dependency to work.
6. Click and hold the bottom-right corner of the **Dependent Field List** field, dragging it out to a comfortable, fully visible size.
7. Edit the JSON entry.
8. Click **Save**.
