# Case

Case represents a behavior event and can have related Behavior Involvement records.

## Sample Uses for Case

The Case object is used differently in EDA than it's used in standard Salesforce. It includes two fields that are unique to EDA that help you track behavior events. Category tracks the type of event, such as a code of conduct violation or other type of school violation. Location tracks where the event occurred, such as on campus or off campus.

Let’s look at some possible uses for the Case object.

- University—Track the theft of personal property from a dorm room.
- K-12—Track a bullying incident on a school bus.
- Any educational institution—Track a breach in code of conduct.

## Configure Case

Keep the Case object up to date.

### Keep Up with Case Updates

## Create a Case Record for a Behavior Event

Use these steps to create a case record for a behavior event in Education Data Architecture.

1. Click the **Cases** tab. If you don't see the Cases tab, from the App Launcher, find and select **Cases**, and click **New**.
2. Enter the Occurrence Date, Category, and Status for the behavior event. You don’t have to relate a Case with a particular Contact at this time. You’ll use Behavior Involvement records to relate people to the behavior event (Case) later.
3. Fill in optional fields as needed.
4. Click **Save**.

Tip As a next step, create Behavior Involvement records to track the individual people involved in this behavior event. See [Behavior Involvement](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleview?id=sfdo.eda_behavior_involvement.htm) .
