# Set Field-Level Security for Portal Users

Create a permission set that gives portal users read and edit access to the fields that they need to book appointments.

Before you begin, make sure that you [turn on Salesforce Scheduler](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ec_enable_scheduler.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Before you set up the appointment feature, turn on Salesforce Scheduler for Education Cloud.").

1. Create a custom permission set for portal users.
    
    See [Create a Permission Set](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.perm_sets_create.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
2. In your new permission set, click **Object Settings**.
3. Click **Skill Requirements**.
4. Click **Edit** and select read access for Skill Level.
5. Save your changes.
6. Similarly, provide access to these fields:
