# Sharing Considerations for Applications

Consider how and when to share application information with applicants.

Before you set up your application, review these sharing considerations.

- Update your sharing settings so that portal users can see their application data and documents in the portal.
- Application decision records are automatically shared with Experience Cloud users on the date you set for the decision release and early application release. You can set these dates on the application timeline object.
    - If a Decision Release Date value isn't entered, application decision records aren’t shared with portal users.
    - If the Decision Release Date value is in the future, application decision records are shared on that date.
    - If the Decision Release Date value is the current date or in the past, application decision records are shared immediately.
    - For rolling admissions decisions, as previously noted, records are shared immediately when the Decision Release Date value is the current date or in the past. Alternatively, you can enter the same values in Application Open Date and Decision Release Date. This setup shares decision records as soon as they’re created, within the application time frame.
- Test the performance of your Experience Cloud site to account for all situations involving many users or high traffic, such as sharing application decisions on a specific day or time. ## Update External Sharing Settings

The external sharing settings specified in your org-wide defaults apply to users with a Customer Community Plus license. See [Set Your External Organization-Wide Sharing Defaults](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleview?id=platform.security_owd_external_setting.htm&type=5).

## Update Internal Sharing Settings

For users to see relevant objects, make sure that your sharing settings are correctly configured. For example, update the default internal sharing settings so that users can see contacts and applications created by a portal user. These default sharing settings apply to users with a Standard User profile and with the Education Cloud Full Access permission set.
